Fisherman of the Punta Lobos cooperativa have reached an agreement with Tres Santos. All eight points of the Ejido fishermen's petition have been verbally agreed upon and a document will be signed by both parties and the full membership of the cooperativa approximately one month from now (please see updates below).
According to my source (a fisherman), the fishermen and their legal counsel were pleased with the results of the meeting which took place Feb. 4th. Tres Santos also announced they would not use town water supplied by the aquifer to sustain their project. Water will be supplied by the development's desalination plant.
Update: its a subtle but important difference ... the agreement is to meet to discuss the 8 points, nothing has been formally agreed to verbal or otherwise.
Update: The first request by the cooperativa was that Tres Santos lift their lawsuit against legal council Lic. John Moreno who had and continues to work pro bono. Tres Santos refused to recognize Mr. Moreno as the coop's legal representative and the cooperativa left the negotiating table. Tres Santos said the breakdown in negotiations was the result of one selfish individual.
